Justicetown “live” at the Venue Sunday 12th September Last Sunday night local band Justicetown returned to the stage after a lay off of over two years to promote the release of their first album “This is not food”. Despite the wet and windy weather a packed Venue was treated to a great night of “live” music. The evening kicked of with special guests Alec and Nathan, a blues guitar duo from Galloway. Nathan’s deft guitar work and excellent blues voice was complemented by Alec’s soaring blues harp. A solid set of blues standards got the night off to a great start. Next up were Justicetown who showed no signs of a long break from “live” performance with a strong set of some of their older original material. Despite breaking a guitar string during the first number, frontman Davie McMillan had the crowd going from the start. The solid rhythm section kept it all rocking along nicely. The set finished with a great rendition of the anthemic “Long way down” with the audience in good voice. Then there was an acoustic set from the second special guest, local singer/ songwriter Becka Bird. Becka’s strong voice and great guitar playing went down well with the crowd who appreciated her singing her own songs. Next Davie McMillan gave a sensitive rendition of the acoustic ballads from the new album before being joined on stage by the rest of the band for the final set. This time augmented by Amy and Zoe on backing vocals and Dugald on percussion. They started with “You’re my lover” one of the most ‘catchy’ numbers from the CD and went on to play the entire album, including a great version of “ Just the start” ending with the crowd singing and dancing to “Keep on walking” and “Homeland”. An excellent return to the “live” scene, make sure to catch them when they play again locally in the near future. The CD “This is not food is now on sale from Barnstorm records in Dumfries or check out the website www.justicetown.co.uk AB
